Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

My acer 5720 laptop, equipped with Intel 965GM chipset, makes Xorg crash & reboot everytime I start a 3D application (blender, google-earth, even glxgears). Glxinfo says: "direct rendering: No", but while reading Xorg.log it looks like DRI is successfully enabled.
Desktop effects run well, the problem arises also when they're disabled.
When starting glxgears, I can see a black square in the top-left corner of the screen for very little time, before everything goes black and X restarts.

Many many thanks for any help!!

This works just fine on my Thinkpad X61 with the same chip, using hardy. Please test any hardy livecd, for instance the alpha1 release.

I downloaded and run Hardy: glxgears work perfectly!
I think my problem could be solved by upgrading xserver-xorg-video-intel from 2.1.1 to 2.2.0.
What I download the sources from the launchpad page and install them into my Gutsy 7.10? Are there any incompatibilities with other packages?

It won't build or install without some changes. Closing the bug, fixed in hardy.
