Bug Description
Ubuntu 7.10
Default installation of Ubuntu 7.10 on my Compaq Presario 5000LA gave me a bad moment, system will fully load, but display will be corrupted at gdm start.
The monitors lights (an AOC Spectrum 4V) blinks, I think it's because a wrong frequency is set.
I loads by default the Intel driver, which I was unable to set up correctly to work; my solution was to change to TTY1 and do a "dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg" to choose i810 driver AND (the most important thing) the resolutions I was willing to use (640*480, 800*600, 1024*768).
I noted that there was not any pre-selected resolution, as in other times (like Feisty, which does not have this problem, but wanted to add some resolutions)
Changing just "Intel" to "i810" in xorg.conf did not help, because there're not resolutions available.
Firstly I though it was a problem upgrading (cause I upgraded Xubuntu Feisty to Gutsy) but crashed after restart like this bug:

So I installed a fresh Ubuntu Gutsy to see what happen, but it was faulty too.

P.S. Sorry my English, I speak Spanish.
Please attach your /var/log/ Xorg.0. log, /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and the output of lspci -vvnn.
