Bug Description

running inkscape 0.45.1 on Ubuntu Gutsy

on some files, when I type in a new text box, the first two letters are inverted (e.g. "bacd", or even "bcda" sometimes, instead of "abcd")

steps to reproduce:
well, it's quite strange, since I seem not to be able to always reproduce it..anyway it seems to be related with projects with big imported bitmaps and text-on-path. Maybe some memory issue?
I have been able to reproduce it only opening an already-saved file.

step 1: click on "open recent" and open a file containg some images and text-on-path

step 2: click on the text tool icon on the left toolbar

step 3: click anywhere and type very quickly (no, I'm not making typos :) , just try simply "ab".

This is what I get typing an "abababab..." sequence: "baababababa". see the first two letters?

sorry I can't find the exact issue. hope someone can reproduce it and confirm

I've tried in many ways to reproduce it, even with large documents/imported photos, but I can't encounter it. Note that I'm on Debian Sid, so the environment should be quite similar. Can you please try if you can reproduce it with a recent SVN build?

I created a file with 4 .jpg images (not too big, ~600px) and 2 text on paths objects and opened it from Recent menu option.

I was able to reproduce it on Inkscape 0.45.1 on fedora 7 but it doesn't happen all the time and I haven't been able to get it to appear if I type slowly. Sometimes it happens in 9 out of 10 tries, then I close and reopen Inkscape and it doesn't show or shows only once in 15 tries...

I also tested on dev build on WinXP but no problems there.

Could you check this on a development version, maybe the problem has been fixed by now? (I can't get dev versions work on fedora)

prkos: yes, it seems to occur only when you don't give letters time to be displayed, i.e. quick typing with much used memory.

We've just released 0.46, which has packages available for Ubuntu Gutsy and Hardy (see http://inkscape.org news from today for notes about the ppa). Can you please test and see if this is still an issue?
