[Hardy] shares-admin not storing shared folder information

Bug Description

I am running hardy heron with all updates as of today. When I attempt to add a "shared folder" the information entered is not saved.

System->Administration->Shared Folders->Unlock->Add
After adding desired folders, click 'quit'

I cannot access any folders that I add via shares-admin. When I reopen shares-admin, none of he previously entered shares are stored. If I open smb.conf, none of the information added via shares-admin is present.

Puzzling enough, I do not know the real function of 'unlock'. When I press 'unlock' I am not prompted for any information (username, password, etc).

Any Ideas. Need any other info?

Thanks for your report. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. Hardy Alpha 2 here, same bug. "shared folder" does not save the info, and doesn't work either.

Hardy won't share folders with the Gutsy on the same LAN side by side. On Gutsy, Places, Network, workgroup, does find the Hardy however there are no folders shared.

Hardy can access the shared folders on the Gutsy.

For that matter, Hardy can't browse the Gutsy locally attached printer either, which would be gnome-system-tools as well.

Hardy is up to date as of Jan 5.

This is an IBM NetVista. I can supply lspci -vvnn or any other info that might be useful, /var/logs. whatever.

I spent a while looking at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage and didn't see anything better than gnome-system-tools.

I can confirm this bug. When run from a command line the following lines are sent to stderr upon launching shares-admin:

(shares-admin:7409): Gtk-WARNING **: Unknown property: GtkComboBox.items

Please let me know if you need further information about my system.

Same problem here, latest up-to date Hardy as of Jan. 5, 2008. Not storing info on the shared folders and re-prompting to install Samba each time I right click a folder and select "share".
