Bug Description

Binary package hint: xubuntu-desktop

I have installed Xubuntu 7.10 but my DPI setting is 83 or something and that's why all the fonts are really small. On Xubuntu 7.06 and before, there are no problems.

I don't remember if it was set to by default but I tried it with 1024*768 resolution. It is an 17", Samsung SyncMaster 793s.

That screen shouldn't get a value of 83DPI. If you use the default "best" resolution of the Samsung 793s (1280x1024), you should get 96DPI, and if it is forced to 1024x768, you should get 75DPI. 83 splits the difference nicely, but as the monitor should be in one mode or the other, rather than half-way between, this isn't ideal.

I downgraded to Xubuntu 7.06 so I can`t test it with native installation but I just tested it again with Live CD and see that I cannot change the resolution. It is always 1024*768. When I change it, it says me something like `The resolution changed, do you want to keep this setting` but actually it does not changed.

When I enter `Settings/Screen and Graphics` I can see my monitor is recognized truely as Samsung SyncMaster 793s. I don`t know what could be the problem.

This is ot a problem with Xubuntu, it's more a xorg or xserver matter. Setting xorg as the affected package.

No reply from the submitter, closing the bug.

This is likely fixed in Hardy anyway. Please test and reopen if still valid.
