Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution, after a while, maybe timed out, gives me this error message: "Welcome response error: Operation now in progress" and never sends the email. Of course this messages don't gives to the user a useful information.

After investigating, doing a telnet session I found that the problem is that the server is rejecting the email because a RBL rule:

$ telnet mail.somedomain.com 25
Trying <SERVER_IP>...
Connected to mail.somedomain.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
HELO somedomain.com
rblsmtpd: <YOUR_IP> pid 2499: 451 http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=<YOUR_IP>
220 rblsmtpd.local
250 rblsmtpd.local

Evolution should be able to give to the user a better error message because:
- the message that is giving now is idiot
- we must identify the problem to be able to correct the problem
- almost all email servers have RBL rules enabled (or some other rejecting by ip policies)

Looking upstream for matches.

@kimus: could you please run Evo with some omre debugging set? See http://www.gnome.org/projects/evolution/bugs.shtml for details, but I would like you to:

1. stop Evo completely (from a terminal, run 'evolution --force-shutdown')
2. start Evo from the terminal with 'CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution >& evo.log'
3. repeat the issue
4. completely stop Evo (as in 1 above)

Then please sanitise the evo generated log, and attach it here. Also please attach your ~/.xsession-errors, at least with all Evo-related messages.

Thank you.

This occurs when my IP is 'blocked' by a RBL rule. I have to wait now because I have dynamic IP.
I have administration acess to the email server, maybe I can 'simulate' this behavior.

I think this is resolved in the latest evolution. So it can be closed.

I am then closing this as fix released. Interesting to note, nothing was done on the upstream bug...

Thank you for the patience and the last comments on the status.
