Bug Description

The Glipper program will not install on Hardy Herron Alpha 2 (even though it seems to go thu the motions of doing so from Synaptic).

After attempting to install Glipper from Synaptic, I can see no Glipper program listed on the menus anywhere and my search for Glipper on the filesystem finds nothing.

Is it possible that for some reason it is no longer necessary to install Glipper on this particular version of Ubuntu ?

I have also run into what appear to be some other bugs and it sure would be nice if I could get Glipper working so it would help me to relate those bugs to you.

Thanks.

I take that back, maybe it IS no longer necessary to install that program to get copy & paste to work. I just tried a copy and paste and they seem to work just fine.

But if that IS the case then perhaps Glipper should be taken out of Synaptic.

Thanks.

Copy and paste has always worked in Ubuntu. Glipper adds multiple clipboard instances. This does not need to be taken out of the repositories.

I suppose that there is a bug in the package, because after installation the glipper executable is not on the system.

glipper has been turned into a panel applet; I suppose that this is the reason why it has disappeared from the menu. If you open the "Add to panel" window, there is an item called Clipboard Manager; I suppose that it is glipper.

Unfortunately, trying to add the Clipboard Manager to the panel does not work.

It works for me in Alpha 4 (it didn' t before), make sure you don' t have a .glipper in your home dir.

Actually, the glipper package is missing the glipper binary itself. Not having a .glipper file in your home directory can not fix this issue, if you have the broken package installed.

Just had some issue with that beast too.

I've fixed it that way :

 - mv .glipper to .glipper.`date +%Y%m%d`
 - Right click on a panel bar, add to panel : Clipboard manager

Here we are, glipper behaves as expected with the same default shortcuts (Ctrl ALT c). As far as I understand glipper is not a binary (living in /usr/bin/) anymore, you don't have to launch it when you session start (as in Gutsy) but an applet... Much more intuitive in my opinion

As said before, Glipper is now a panel applet. This particular bug is invalid. If you are having issues adding Glipper to the panel please open a separate report describing your issue. Thanks.

@Julien: Thank you! For me too glipper did not show up in the dialog "Add to panel..." of 8.04 alpha 3. Restarting or updating did not help. Your comment above did help!

Today I tested it with an 8.04 beta Live-CD. After "sudo apt-get install glipper" glipper does NOT appear in the dialog "Add to panel..."! I restarted gdm with CTRL+Alt+Backspace which failed with the message "failed - try to kill bonobo-activation-server"! So i did that and then restarted gdm again. After that glipper worked like expected. I think there IS a minor bug in the install package of glipper, which can be worked around with a system restart.

@Andrew: I agree, another problem could be, that the new glipper is simply not found by the users. In the german dialog "Zum Panel hinzufügen..." glippers title and text even does not contain "clip", "glip" or "board". One has to use "ablage" to find glipper. A better, longer text would be helpful.
