Bug Description

The wireless card on the ThinkPad X61 (driver iwl4965) does not work on Hardy Heron and kernel 2.6.24. I find the following error in dmesg:

[ 31.395298] iwl4965: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN driver for Linux, 1.1.17kds
[ 31.395305] iwl4965: Copyright(c) 2003-2007 Intel Corporation
[ 31.395626] iwl4965: Detected Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
[ 33.742698] iwl4965: iwlwifi-4965-1.ucode firmware file req failed: Reason -2
[ 33.742705] iwl4965: Could not read microcode: -2
[ 33.743445] iwl4965: probe of 0000:03:00.0 failed with error -2

According to Gentoo Wiki[1] (see the very bottom of the page), this is only a version mismatch. Hope that helps.
" * "iwl4965: iwlwifi-4965-1.ucode firmware file req failed: Reason -2" and similar for iwl3945 indicate a firmware version/filename mismatch just rename the file to whatever iwlwif displays in this case: iwlwifi-4965-1.ucode "

I have a ThinkPad T60 with the Intel Pro Wireless 3945. It doesn't work with the stock 7.10 kernel, and I downloaded the latest (2.6.24 at the time of writing) and installed that, and it doesn't work with that either. The firmware version that worked for me was wlwifi-3945-ucode-2.14.1.5.tgz from:
If you go to http://intellinuxwireless.org/?n=downloads&f=ucode&p=iwlwifi

Just put it into /lib/firmware/`uname -r`

Hi,

Can you confirm this issue still exists in the Hardy Alpha 4 release? Thanks.

The bug currently does NOT exit. It reappears after every new kernel update, but it is always fixed in a few days.

Thanks Karol. As it appears to be fixed for now, I'll go ahead and close this report. Please feel free to reopen if you notice any regressions. Thanks.
