Bug Description

In Open Orifice (sorry, had to) when I wish to print a document, it is not possible to define what I would like to be my default printer. In fact, the default is a .pdf file every time I try to use OpenOffice, and I have to reset my printer (which shows up on the menu ok) as the place I want my doc printed.

Please would you add the possibility of defining the default printer from here, and also that once selected the choice is saved unless altered, even when the app is closed.

Many thanks for your hard work, Jules

If you set a default printer by going to System->Preferences->Default Printer, the "default" printer inside Open Office remains unchanged, the default printer for Open Office is always the 1st printer on that list. Also if you set up a new printer inside System->Admin->Printing the printer does not show up until the system is rebooted.

UPDATE: This is a problem with OpenOffice needing to be restarted (you must also exit the Quickstarter!). Open Office is unable to detect that a new default printer has been selected from System->Preferences->Default Printer while it is open (that includes while Quickstarter is running). So until you restart OpenOffice or Ubuntu, OpenOffice says it's defualt printer is the printer that was default when OpenOffice (or Quickstarter) started.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open OpenOffice or start OpenOffice Quickstart
2. notice what printer is default inside OpenOffice by going to File->Print
3. Go to System->Prefrences->Default Printer and change your default printer
4. notice what printer is default inside OpenOffice by going to File->Print
5. If you want OpenOffice to detect the changes you made to System->Preferences->Default Printer restart OpenOffice & Quickstart

Steps for Open Office to detect new default printer:
1. Set a new default printer in System->Preferences->Default Printer
2. Close any OpenOffice window
3. Exit Open Office Quickstarter
4. Open OpenOffice & see it your newly set default printer is the default printer when you press File->Print inside OpenOffice

This worked in my case (Dell Inspiron e1505, Ubuntu 7.10), make sure you post if there is additional issues I missed and/or it doesn't work!!!
