Bug Description

Hi,

on OpenOffice Word Processor, when I looked into the 'Properties' of a document (an invoice) produced in the past months on my computer to see when it had been created, I found that its creation date was 02/07/07, 07:38:00 its modification date the same - 02/07/07, 07:38:00 but that it had last been printed 18/12/06, 11:22:00 i.e. it had been printed before it was even created.

So somewhere there is a data reading problem I suppose - the doc had been setup on MS word, if my memory serves correctly, (now being read by Gutsy Gibbon in front of me) but it just may have been set up in Ubuntu/open office Wordprocessor, Feisty Fawn (I've recently upgraded to the Gibbon).

Just speculating, it could be that the doc was held to be 'created' when Ubuntu (or gibbon/OO Word Processor first read it, but it's a bit ambiguous and is giving me a bit of a headache at the moment - and may be doing so for others.

Hope this helps in the world of trapping.

BTW is there any chance that you can call the next release or so of UBUNTU "The Dog's Bollocks?" - I assume you are in the States but just in case you think I'm being abusive - the Dog's is Northern English slang for the best thing since sliced bread - why, I don't know... as Edmund Hillary should perhaps have said "Because they're there"?

Cheers, Jules

Do you know how to consistently reproduce this problem? If you do please describe it. If you don't can you attach the file that shows this problem?

Thanks,

Hi Chris, thanks for looking into this.

I was thinking about it and the way I usually make a new invoice is to open an old, existing invoice, and then "save as" with the new invoice number, and then change the contents. Then I do a normal "save" when it's complete and ready to send. And I suspect the document properties remain the same as the original invoice I've used, when they should perhaps (?) reset as though it has never been printed. I've never tried to do this in Windows to test its behaviour so I'm not sure what the best solution is. It isn't a big issue, but it is nice to be able to refer to when a document was printed when auditing paperwork months later.

Please find an attached document which shows the issue.

Thanks again, yours sincerely, Julian Dixon

Can you still reproduce this bug with new documents on Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid)?

I tried reproducing it and the 'save as' document kept the original creation/save dates as well. For times when you are intending to make an entirely new document you can hit 'reset' in the properties dialog which will reset all information.

Hi Chris - I didn't even know there was an "Intrepid" (- have just been updating Hardy regularly, so can't say if it's different).

Thanks v much for looking into this and for your help - will hit reset in future - possibly, that's the best way, anyway, for most people, (though I suspect some small business users like myself will use an earlier invoice, copy it, and make a new one of it and so come across what I did)?

Cheers. Jules

Julian,

What I was talking about with respect to saving a copy is that all the stats are kept at least now with Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid). (Created / Modified / Printed / etc), it sounds like in the past that perhaps only the Printed stat was kept across saving for you.

Chris
