Bug Description

After upgrading Gutsy Kubuntu on or about 29-dec - 1 jan, the PC won't boot anymore.

It won't boot in recovery mode.

If I edit the grub menu to remove quiet and splash, then I can see the kernel stops at different places.

Sometimes it's usb where it stops, sometimes it's the cdrom drive.Sometimes I see 'SATA channnel link down' or similar message. I tried removing the cd and the usb, but then it just stops at some other place (mostly to do with sata).

I can not boot with the 2.6.20 kernel that is in the grub menu. It has the same problem.

I can boot perfectly with the Kubuntu Gutsy live CD, I am using that now to write this bugreport.

This most be the worst-day-ever with Ubuntu.

I suspect if I can get the machine to boot again with a rescue cd or something, then I could revert to another kernel and get it going again.

It turns out that grub made all /dev/md3 into /dev/md2 and this is not a kernel bug. It is related to the upgrade tough, and might be filed as a bug in itself. Also, the nvidia driver suddenly seems to be missing.
