About Me has dependency on Evolution Data Server

Bug Description

On default install notice that About Me works.

Remove evolution-data-server
Try again
Notice error: There was an error trying to get the address book information. Evolution data server can't handle the protocol.

Would like to see About Me to not use evolution data server (or at least work without it), or provide alternate way for user to change their password

Thanks for the report, About me grab the info (Email, Telephone, Instant Messaging) of the user from evolution so if you remove the dependency it wont work and the users can always change their password by the users-admin located at System->Administration->Users and groups. marking this as notabug. thanks you.

I was just hit by this bug. I removed evolution-data-server too.

I don't remember if gnome-about-me used to run without evolution-data-server, but now for sure it's bricked without it.

And g-a-m is not just about password changing: I use it for setting my avatar in GDM.

Making Gnome Control Center depending on e-d-s maybe is too much, but can't we have:
- either a better error message, telling to install e-d-s;
- or features requiring e-d-s disabled, but setting the avatar still available ?

herve, you might want to open a bug report upstream about that since they write the code for the application, upstream being http://bugzilla.gnome.org , thanks.
