On Ubuntu and Kubuntu 7.10 both 64bit and 32 bit live CDs the keyboard hangs after X starts.
The GRUB prompt accepts keyboard input, but anything in X does not.

hello,

thanks for reporting this bug.

It would be helpful if you could attach your xorg.conf to this report.

Attach a file from this webpage, from the file system the file is
/etc/X11/xorg.conf

That will tell us how Ubuntu has configured your input device.
Thanks

Could you also let me know if the mouse functions?

We'd also like to check whether or not this is a bug with the GUI or with the kernel.

Please could you try booting from the CD again. When the menu for the CD comes up, don't choose to "start or install" ubuntu yet.

Instead, press f6.

You will see a line of options written at the bottom. With the keyboard, navigate to and delete the words "quiet" and "splash"

Write the word "single" where they were.

The computer will start in a command line interface. Please could you let me know if the keyboard works here

If it does, you can shutdown by typing

sudo shutdown -h 0

If not, try pressing the power button, it should send the signal to perform a shutdown. If it doesn't you might have to hold in the button for 6 seconds.

Either way, please report your findings.

Thanks again.

Well, mouse must be functioning, as he was able to browse the cd and even launch the installer.
I will try to ask him to do that, haven`t seen him lately.

Any update on this? Is this still an issue in a supported release? (Gutsy reached EOL a while ago)

Sorry for the late response, this bug was forgotten for a while. As you said you can't reproduce this bug on a newer release I'm closing it now. If you can reproduce this issue again please file a new bug, and please report any other bugs you may find! Thanks.
