Bug Description

Hello,

I have installed several versions of K/X/Ubuntu from version 6.06 to 7.10. The system installs fine, but when I restart, all I see is a black screen during system startup. After a few minutes, I do see the login screen, and I can log on successfully. I actually thought that my PC was broken because of this, since the screen is black when I first boot up the PC.

I have also noticed this on Debian Etch, and the Cassandra version of Linux Mint, which is based on Ubuntu. I just could not find any links to report this on their sites.

My system info is as follows:
Gateway 500se
Intel Pentium 4 1.8 GHz
Intel 82845G/GL [Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device
Intel 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller
1GB of RAM

Everything else is fine, and I also have an IBM T23 that does not have this problem.

thank you for your report

a work around is to edit the grub menu and remove the quiet splash entrys from the end of the kernel line
then boot and you will see the boot actions.
