f-spot fullscreen stops working (64-bit)

Bug Description

Binary package hint: f-spot

on a fresh install of 64-bit Gutsy (not running compiz), clicking on "fullscreen" in f-spot works properly the first few times, then stops working with the following behavior: main window loses focus, a second window labeled "fullscreen" appears to be created and iconized, but clicking on the second window doesn't do anything (although you can right-click and close it). I turned all desktop effects off and re-started Xserver, but it did not help. I then downloaded/installed f-spot 0.4.1 from f-spot.org, since it seemed to have many bugfixes, but the same behavior recurred with that version.

Thanks for your report, Is there any output on the command line if you run f-spot from it?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

hi Pedro,
with lots of effort I eventually figured out that I needed to install a
"compositing" window manager such as XFCE in order for f-spot to work
properly. Thus, I still believe it is a bug ... my out-of-the-box
installation of Ubuntu should not have choked on one of its own included
applications this way ... but I'm not sure if it's properly considered an
f-spot bug or rather a problem with Ubuntu.
thanks!
Mary

Ok that's pretty weird, I have metacity without a compositing manager enabled and it works fine here, which video card do you have? and also which driver are you using? that probably is a video issue rather than a window manager one. thanks.

I have a NVIDIA fx5200 card and the binary nvidia driver (whatever version
was installed by clicking the prompts in Ubuntu). A pretty vanilla setup,
except for the 64 bit part!
thanks for following up.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Intrepid Ibex. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
