Bug Description

On my Fujitsu FMV-BIBLO T5/53W subnotebook with a 1280x600 native
resolution, the login screen on the initial startup is garbled and
unreadable. However, if I perform a hard shutdown with the power
button, the computer reboots and the login screen appears perfectly
at 1280x600...awesome. I'm just not certain why the graphical login
is garbled in the first login. The video chip is and ATI Rage
Mobilily P/M with 4MB VRAM. By the way, excellent job on
autodetecting the "awkward" 1280x600 resolution...no other distro.
has been able to do it.

Picture of garbled boot screen with Ubuntu

Here's a picture of the screwed up login screen immediately after completing
the installation. Although this bug is not consistent, I wanted to document it
for possible resolution...before the bug possibly gets worse.

Problem of garbled login screen confirmed for both Ubuntu and Kubuntu preview releases under
a "normal" boot. However, if I boot using recovery mode as an option, then the login screen displays
properly.

From what I can remember, I haven't had this problem with the latest Dapper Flight installations. However, let me verify resolution of this bug with the upcoming Dapper Beta, and I'll request to close this bug. Thanks.

With Dapper Flt 4, I do not receive a garbled screen with the first login (good). However, sound hung (i.e. rolling drum and desktop "twinkling stars"). Then, when I reboot, the desktop login and sound are fine. I'm now using a Fujitsu FMV-Biblo LOOX T86A, which is a newer model than the T5/53W. Thanks.

So, hopefully fixed by now anyway. If not (and you have access to the problematic hardware), reopen.
