To get your fix included in Ubuntu, try transforming it into a debdiff (http://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Recipes/Debdiff) and submitting it for review (http://wiki.ubuntu.com/SponsorshipProcess).

The code in the patch looks fine, but the debdiff does not apply to the exim4 package. exim4 uses a packaging approach I'm not terribly familiar with, so I'd not trust myself to repackage the patch to suit; someone more familiar with the packaging process for exim4 needs to look at this. DHolbach, can you please find someone to sponsor it (or unsub ubuntu-main-sponsors until someone can produce a proper patch)?

The patch still applies cleanly against the unpacked source, but maybe it'd make more sense to forward this change to Debian/Upstream. I'm opening the relevant tasks in LP.

Bryce/Daniel-

I was able to clean up the debdiff, apply it cleanly, and build binary and source packages, which install. I'm going to go ahead and sponsor this.

Attaching the debdiff I used. Note that I also submitted this patch to Debian.

I fat fingered the bug number in the changelog, so this didn't get auto-closed. Sorry!

exim4 (4.69-9ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

I reported it in Debian as:

For some reason I cannot change the bugwatch since it already exists.
