pidgin buddy list takes up way too much space

Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

the layout of the buddy list screen is extremely wasteful. Each entry is nearly twice as tall as it needs to be, resulting in a lot of scrolling (only about half my buddy list fits on the screen). It would be swell if this layout was more compact.

Thanks for this bug report.
You can make the contact list more compact by unchecking "Contact information" in the Contacts -> View menu.
I'm marking this bug as invalid for now; if you consider this is still a bug, feel free to re-open it.

This may be a stupid question, but I have the same question, but can't find this Contacts menu you speak of ? All I see across the top is Buddies / Accounts / Tools / Help, and none of those have a View submenu. There's also no View option or tab under prefs or plugin options.

Probably they mean Buddies->Show and uncheck the Buddy Details option.

This is an old ticket, but I agree with it. For similar reasons I created a plugin which compacts the buddy list. It might be useful to someone, so I'll post the link here:
