usplash default resolution is invalid

Bug Description

Binary package hint: usplash

The default /etc/usplash.conf contained the following code.

<code>
# Usplash configuration file
xres=1280
yres=1024
</code>

This isn't good, because my video card definitely doesn't have that mode. This mode should not have been selected. 1280x800 should have been probed instead.

It doesn't work with me either, I installed ubuntu 7.10 on several PC's, usplash works OK with the livecd, but after install I get a blank screen at boot, when I commented out the enteries in /etc/usplash.conf I got a usplash at shutdown but not at boot. It looks like most monitors that we have here doesn't support that mode, it only worked with one monitor (the same PC doesn't show usplash with others). I don't see what is the point of having such very high resolution by default.

Even after fixing the resolution, the splash screen didn't work until I ran the StartupManager tool - a very nice tool. It can be installed from Synaptic.
