Hard disk not found: atiixp kernel module not automatically loaded during initramfs (ati sb600)

Bug Description

Ubuntu Hardy x86-32
  Kernel: 2.6.24-3
Motherboard: Asus M2R32-MVP (Latest bios)
  Sata controller: Ati sb600

During boot the hard disk is not recognized. The system hangs over "Waiting for root file system ..." and then says the disk cannot be found.

This is due to the kernel not loading automatically the module atiixp during initramfs operations.

Adding "atiixp" to /usr/share/initramfs-tools/modules and then updating initramfs with "update-initramfs -u" fixes the problem.

This is a regression since 2.6.22 where the disk was correctly identified.
