update-manager failed in distribution upgrade

Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

during a "partial upgrade" session in Hardy 64-bit AMD, the update-manager failed to complete and later attempts failed with a message about being unable to calculate the required changes. Crash manager requests that I file bug report with attached files apt.log and apt-term.log from /var/log/dist-upgrade/

P.S. As the upgrade involved OpenOffice files, I am left without any OO programs at the moment - hope this gets fixed!
