Since I raised this report there's been an update to version 3.34.1-1. Immediately after updating I confirmed that the calendar still would not start. Now I find that the calendar starts every time so the problem seems to be fixed.

I'll leave this to the other affected users to provide the requested information if the calendar still doesn't start for them.

Also tested gnome-calendar 3.34.1-1 in a live session using daily ISO 20191008 and found that it starts as it should from the Activities Overview.
