Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

I am using last night's hardy build (Alternate CD). Nautilus shows no icon for CD image of alternate CD. The problem has been there since alpha 1. I have noticed a few things which I hope should give some pointer to the problem.
1. 'file -i filename.iso' shows mime as application/x-iso9660.
2. nautilus shows mime for same image as application/x-cd-image
3. There is no entry in for application/x-iso9660 in /usr/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml found in shared-mime-info.

Please note that nautilus version is old (2.20.x) as I have not yet updated the system with latest updates. So if you think this is fixed in latest version of nautilus then please close the bug accordingly.

Just an additional note; The problem is present with nautilus version 2.21.x (haven't checked with 2.21.90). And the observations I noted are no different from gutsy.

Thanks for the report, may you check later with 2.21.90? And also please check it with a new user created on your system, I cannot confirm your report since that works fine for me I've tested it with a few cd images. thanks again.

The problem persists with latest nautilus (2.21.9x). Do I have to test this with new user. I doubt I will be able to create new user as I am running out of space in my /home directory.

By the way even if it works with new user it should still be marked as regression since current users who upgrade to hardy will be affected. Is this bug known upstream?

Leaving as incomplete until it can be tested and confirmed by another user, thanks in advance.

Pedro, it is some days since I'm experiencing the same issue. I'm using Hardy.

shared-mime-info 0.23-1
nautilus 1:2.21.90-0ubuntu3

file -i reports application/x-iso9660 as mime type, while Nautilus reports application/x-cd-image.
Also other file types have the same problem (i.g. tar/gzip archives, reported as application/x-gzip and application/x-compressed-tar).

I also have seen the issue for .tar.gz, .tar, .tar.bz2 files. But I was not sure if it is nautilus issue.

I checked on a working Gutsy and also on the old Ubuntu version file -i and Nautilus properties window report different mime types (e.g. application/x-iso966 vs application/x-cd-image and), but the icons are correctly displayed.

I have no problems with a cd image, maybe you're experiencing bug 186161

Pedro, it is not the cd icon, but just a normal file icon (a .iso file). Moreover I have the same problem also with other file types (tar.gz and others).
