Bug Description

First thing, I have solved the sound bug with the Method G (see here : https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Gutsy_Intel_HD_Audio_Controller#head-0e5a1c0b384a3886c7776913e401a039809c84c9 ) to have sound under Gutsy with my Dell Precision M6300

But there is another bug very annoying : the sound anormaly grow up when I play sound or video.

If I can give you more technical informations, just tell me :)

PS : I posted this bug report first in the Dell Ubuntu Project. I don't know if it's a good idea to post it here too. All apologize if I should not :o/

Well, yes, more information/symptoms regarding the anomaly would be helpful. :-)

I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 32bits

uname -a ------> Linux Windoo 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Dec 18 08:02:57 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

[me]@[~]$ grep Codec /proc/asound/card0/codec#*
/proc/asound/card0/codec#0:Codec: SigmaTel STAC9205
/proc/asound/card0/codec#1:Codec: Conexant ID 2c06

For the symptoms, I will try to explain...
1) the General volume is set on the middle
2) I'm starting Totem (for example) with a MP3
3) before start playing, I'm setting Totem's level volume on the middle
4) I start to play the MP3
5) the sound grow up more and more but the Gnome's General Volume and Totem's level volume don't move !!!
6) if I'm scroll down slowly the General level, the sound briskly down
7) with the Totem's level, it's nearly the same (very difficult for me to explain, but if I must do, I'll try :) )

Finally, I solved the problem with editing the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
I just add the following line on the end :

options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m42

Maybe Hardy will reconize this hardware by itself :)
