Gnome-panel crashes when using Compiz-fusion desktop switcher

Bug Description

Hi all! My GNOME Panel crashes whenever I try to switch desktop by clicking on the desktop icon in the nether panel. Switching desktops works fine when doing it with keyboard shortcuts though. Can anyone help me fix this? /Voullie

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

I have the same problem, I was using AWN desktop switcher, but when I switch desktops I loose all my desktop icons, AWN crashes and I need to restart my session.

I'm not sure if my system uses AWN, but I don't think so. How can I find out? Anyway, the symptoms are the same: all icons disappear and I have to restart the X-session. Unfortunately I still haven't found a solution.

If you are not sure you are using AWN, you are not using it...
I found a solution to my problem, it is actually a compiz error. I had
to set the number of virtual desktops to 1, not 4. I still have 4
horizontal workspaces and 1 vertical workspace. this seems kind of
counter-intuitive, but it works...

Seems to work for me too but I agree, it is counter-intuitive. Appreciate the help, been postponing this problem for ages, a relief to finally have it fixed. Thanks a lot!
