Hello.

Why is not the data from apport sufficient? This debugging method seems quite cumbersome.

This is also something that will take way 90% of the users because the procedure is too complicated for a non power-user. Ok, crashes are less common if you don't run a development release but still.

If my case, If I follow the debug instructions, how can I run my program though gdb since it's not something I run manually, it's run by Nautilus. If I were to try to attach to an existing process it is probably already too late because then the process has crashed. Also, I could not find any dbgsym/dbg packages for this package (gvfs).

The trace from apport is missing symbols and I'm unable to recreate the crash on my Hardy system, that's why i'm asking you or the other reporters from the duplicates to submit a better trace so we can forward it upstream and have this fixed.

But how can I create a trace if I cannot find any -dbgsym/-dbg package? Should I not look for gvfs-dbgsym?

the gvfs debugging package will be available soon, then you may want to recreate the crash and let apport to submit the report again to have an automatic and better retrace. thanks you

the package is available now, may you try to recreate the crash and send it with apport? thanks.

Ok thanks, I have installed it. Do you know how I can reverse "Ignore future crashes from this program"?

I'll be more than happy to produce a backtrace as soon as I the right dbg pkg is available, if the bug is still there with latest gvfs versions.
gvfs is now at version 0.1.6, and the dbg packages at 0.1.4.

Matteo, can't you downgrade to 0.1.4 and use the matching -dbgsym that was just uploaded? I have not yet seen the 0.1.6, maybe my mirror (se.archive.ubuntu.com) is slow because I did just do a 'apt-get update' but I still don't see it.

Since I got the same problem with 0.1.4 it should not make a difference?

I can't downgrade correctly (if I try it, even the trash:/ position stops working, nautilus doesn't manage sftp:// urls anymore, and I see a lot of quirks -- maybe some gconf key out of place?). I guess I'll have to wait for 0.1.6 dbg packages.

Sorry for the spam, but I can't reproduce this with gvfs 0.1.6 and nautilus 2.21.90, that just hit the repos.
May be fixed upstream, although I'll test it for the next days to come.
