I confirm that lid close action is set to lock screen, but when the lid is re-opened, the desktop and open applications are visible, the mouse moves but cannot click, and there is no unlock dialog. If I blindly type my password and press enter, I'm able to interact with the computer again.

Please test this again. We pushed some updates for xfce4-session, xfce4-power-manager, and xfce4-screensaver recently to address these issues.

I am also having this problem where my HP 8540p laptop does not resume from being suspended. Very annoying.

I gave up on 20.04, and found a HDD with 16.04 installed. I cloned the drive, and booted up with it, and everything worked great, BUT after I ran the Software Updater, and installed a huge number of updates, 16.04 exhibited the same symptoms as 20.04, that is, the laptop does not resume from a suspend state. The original, non updated version still runs perfectly. The functioning version is 16.04_4.4.0-124-generic, and the faulty version is 16.04_4.4.0-179-generic.

Here is a little surprise. I installed Linux Mint, and the resume from suspend functioned as expected. I ran the software updater, and the updated version of Mint had this same problem. I timeshifted back to prior to update (Kernel: 5.0.0-32-generic x86_64) and all working again.

Disabling lock screen works for me as a workaround.

Same issue here. When lid close action is set to suspend, resuming doesn't work with the same freezing symptoms. However, systemctl suspend can freeze & resume correctly.

Previously I saw a black screen after entering password, or I just saw the lightdm window unresponding to mouse and keyboard events. Then I "purged" xfce4-screensaver and now when I open the lid I enter my password and it logs in properly.

I uninstalled xfce4-screensaver for another reason: The system took ~30 secs to suspend. By uninstalling xfce4-screensaver both the problems disappeared.

Same issue (xubuntu 20.04 , everything updated). Desktop shows, no unlock screen, unresponsive desktop, and mouse pointer can be moved. However, typing the password and pressing enter does work as if the login dialogue were present.

Disabling "Lock screen when system is going to sleep" in the power management settings prevents this problem, but is an undesirable workaround for obvious reasons.

I have the same problem with 20.10 on my notebook.

The problem is probably not in xfce4-power-manager, but in xfce4-screensaver package.
Similar behavior is under Hyper-V: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-screensaver/+bug/1871817

The same here, tested with latest ubuntu 20.04.2, xfce 4.14 & xfce 4.16.

Sometimes the password prompt is there when resuming from suspend, sometimes frozen desktop appears and it helps to write the password blindly without actually seeing password box or anything relevant. If you mistype the pasword, you can only guess, what is going on on the background, then it gets even more funny.

Extremely annoying, it will probably force me to switch another desktop environment.

This feels like a bug in year 1998 ...

This only happens to me when I'm in a VM and not on a laptop.

Same issue on a freshly downloaded iso today of Xubuntu 20.04.2.0. After waking up from suspend I don't see the lock screen, I still see my desktop but I can't interact with anything. If I blindly type my password and press enter, I can finally interact with my desktop.

I'm had the same issue on Xubuntu 22.04

I think I "solved" it with

```
sudo apt-get remove xfce4-screensaver
sudo apt-get install light-locker
```

as suggested here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1217935/ubuntu-studio-20-04-freezes-everything-but-mouse-after-lid-closes-and-opens
