Bug Description

Ubuntu MATE daily since start of Alpha. No changes to system or network since installation, only testing apps and compiz.

This morning, after several suspend/resume I have 2 network indicators displaying, which has not previously occurred. (At same time power management indicator - it is a laptop - disappeared. See separate report #1871854)

Using default theme with icons just changed in colour to orange with the new applet back at start of beta test when it became available.

1 network icon is the correct one of 2 small arrows (1 up, 1 down) and left click displays network info, and right click displays About, help etc. As expected. About info displays Indicator Applet Complete 1.24.0.

2nd, new, icon is same but larger, and both left and right click display the same network info, so no way to access the About info.

I do have MATE Netspeed indicator active, but it has been throughout my testing.

Returns to 1 network indicator (the smaller correct one) after logout/login.

Can occur after initial boot, reboot, logout/login, anytime. Occurs in about 1/3rd of the boots/logins.

Example image attached. Default Traditional layout, and 'custom' theme, which is essentially a recreation of 10.10 theme, humanity icons, etc.

I am having the same problem, more often then not within Ubuntu-Mate 20.04

The first and normal icon is displayed within the Indicator Applet Complete.

The second and extra icon is displayed within the Notification Area.

I use pidgin, and the keyboard distribution, both of which also display within the Notification Area, so this area cannot be removed without effects on my productivity.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in network-manager-applet (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
no longer affects: ubuntu-mate
