Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I have a Dell Latitude D620 laptop, running Ubuntu Hardy (up to date). I have set it to not hibernate/standby when I close the lid, since I often leave it on at night to do stuff.

When I close the lid, the back light turns off for a couple of seconds, then it turns on again. I think it remains like this forever, but I'm not sure since it's only visible at night, and I tend to fall asleep...

This happens with the "close lid" action set to either "do nothing" or "blank screen". It happens every time. Where do I look for clues?

Here it is.

As far as I can tell, there's some kind of event that's triggered after the lid is closed that lights up the screen. If I turn the screen off using xset with a delay (something like "sleep 5; xset dpms force off") and close the screen before the delay is up, it stays off.

I've done some more checking, it doesn't seem to happen anymore.
