[Hardy] Eclipse applications show error "Could not initialize the application's security component"

Bug Description

Binary package hint: eclipse

Eclipse applications (here: my manual installation of Azureus) show the following error when starting:

"Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features."

After this, Azureus shows it's normal behaviour.

The problem can be fixed by creating the directory $HOME/.mozilla/eclipse manually, so I think this is a bug in this package.

I have experienced the same message popping up while eclipse (europa) and firefox (2.0.0.11) running on gutsy gibbon.
The message popped up 2-3 times during the day.

I have created the above directory and have not had the problem since...

I noticed there is a new file in this directory (prefs.js) - see attached.

Hi,

I'm experiencing the same bug as above with Eclipse on Hardy. Creating the ~/.mozilla/eclipse directory worked as a workaround for me.

I've begun to get this error in Eclipse (Europa). The only change I'm aware of making between my last successful work was installing Firefox-3.0.

Thanks - creating the directory, as suggested above also worked for me.

I forgot to add, in my last post, I'm using Gutsy, not Hardy. And, to be clear, I should mention that I have also been applying the suggested upgrades as they become available, so it may not be related to my install of FireFox-3.0.

I can also confirm this behavior on Hardy (updated on 03March-2008).

Eclipse will display the error message until the directory is created.

I had the same problem on with Eclipse Europa 3.2.2 on my hardy beta. I solve the problem too by creating the ~/.mozilla/eclipse directory

Dito, same message Eclipse 3.3.2 in Hardy. Creating ~/.mozilla/eclipse fixed it. Off-topic but, wouldn't it be great if 3.3/3.4 was in Hardy? *sigh*

This also happened for me each time I exited Rssowl using openjdk-6 in Hardy.
Creating the ~/.mozilla/eclipse fixed the error.

I had the same error, after the installation of hardy, but in my case it was to reuse the previous installation of eclipse not made by deb packages but using the package directly to the producer.

In essence, run the executable eclipse does not create automatically
~ / .mozilla / Eclipse
if it isn't present
Also, in my case, it was even impossible to close the application without making
kill -9 number_processor_eclipse

I had the same issue. Manually creating the eclipse directory under ~/.mozilla helped resoved it.

This error crops up when you launch Lotus Notes 8.0.1 (which is built on Eclipse). Creating the $home/.mozilla/eclipse directory fixed it. thanks for the tip

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) and just installed Eclipse 3.3. I've gotten this message while using eclipse twice so far today. I tried the workaround by creating the "eclipse" directory, but it's still appearing. Here's what I did:

thomass@linux-thomass:~$ mkdir /home/thomass/.mozilla/eclipse

the directory "eclipse" is now found under /home/thomass/.mozilla.

Is there something else I should be doing? Why am I still getting this error, even after creating the directory? Thank you.

Hmmm ... I'm curious as to why Eclipse needs access to .mozilla. Oh well.

Anyway, I had the same issue installing 3.3 manually (not from the package), and used the same solution. I did not have the problem under Gutsy.
