Bug Description

Listening to radio it always outputs the sound from television, although it is possible to search and find radio channels.
Furthermore, sometimes the tv sound mutes. Sometimes it comes back after some seconds, sometimes I have to switch the channel.

This happens on kernel 2.6.24-5-generic, when using an older one (like 2.6.22-14-generic) everything works fine.

Hi Ron,

Sorry for the delayed response here. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any recent activity. Is this still an issue with the most recent 2.6.24-19 Hardy kernel? If so, does installing linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24 help at all? If this still proves problematic, care to test latest Alpha for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release that is currently being developed - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your response.

Installed kernel 2.6.24-19-generic.
No Sound cards found. KRadio shows that red cross in the panel and shows an empty list of sound devices.

Installed linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-19-generic.
The soundcard is back again, but the issue remains. No matter what frequency is set, kradio always outputs the sound from television :(

Tried the Desktop CD of Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Alpha 4.
Had to install kradio and tvtime from multiverse repositories to match my current environment.
First, everything worked fine (television sound in tvtime and radio sound in kradio). But after playing a bit with the programs (muting tvsound, changing television channels and radio stations, muting radio sound and so on), the issue came back. Again, kradio sound was that from the current television channel or just noise.

Ah sorry, I did not find any way to modify my last comment.
After installing linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic, kmix shows the red cross and an empty list of sound devices. Not kradio.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.
