Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

I just installed the update to 2.0.0.12, and now FF is suddenly horribly broken.
For example, clicking on "Preferences" produces:

----

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
Location: chrome://browser/content/preferences/preferences.xul
Line Number 1, Column 4:lse;'>URL</a> sent to Google may
---^

----

Another example:

Putting "about:" in the address bar produces:

----

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
Location: jar:file:///usr/lib/firefox/chrome/toolkit.jar!/content/global/about.xhtml
Line Number 1, Column 6:rome://global/content/bindings/richlistbox.xml#richlistitem');
-----^

----

It is obviously a major problem not to have FF working properly.

I discovered that I was also seeing all kinds of DCOP issues while performing other tasks. I rebooted the system, and that seems to have fixed everything. So probably the bad FF behaviour I reported was a result of something else having gone awry.

Sorry but Firefox-2 is getting near EOS and they wont be fixing anything but major issues security issues mainly. Please try to reproduce this with Firefox-3.0 if you can reproduce this bug please click on Help > Report a problem and file the bug that way. This does not mean that it wasn't already fixed.

The XML error you got was from not restarting firefox after updating it.please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs/
