What happened: like what were reported in Debian Bug #385353, fixed with a patch (http://<email address hidden>/msg429574.html)

I tried to patch version 3.6.4 by myself, but patching requires dspam version 3.6.8.
So it would be useful to sync dspam 3.6.8-6 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) as done for bug #186399 also for dapper, maybe putting the package into dapper-backports.

Fixed for Hardy,
You need to request a StableReleaseUpdate (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SRU) to get it into Dapper.

It seems that the problem is still present in Hardy: I have a production installation of dspam on a mail server with about 100 mailboxes. Dspam runs as daemon and keeps crashing about twice a day... mail.log shows the same lines as above. I wrote a script to restart it automactically, but it's only a temporary workaround, waiting for a fix.

Here I run dspam on a production box (Ubuntu 8.04.2) and I get similar crashes about 4 times a day

According to the Debian bug (linked), it should be fixed in 3.6.8-6 (and therefore for Hardy).
Re-opening, since it still happens to Hardy users.

Would be interesting, if it happens on Jaunty still (3.6.8-9ubuntu3).

Do you still experience this with newer 3.9.1~rc1 release?
