Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-14-generic

Gutsy gibbon, AMD Athlon(TM) XP 2600+, 2.6.22-14-generic

Playing music files (with xmms) from NFSv4 mounted folders causes kernel oops.
The oopsed computer gets unresponsive, but dmesg output can be obtained by
ssh:ing into the system.

/etc/fstab:
linukka:/media /mnt/media nfs4 proto=tcp,port=2049 0 0

dmesg output:

Hi Guys,

The Hardy Heron Alpha series is currently under development and contains an updated version of the kernel. It would be helpful if you could test the latest Hardy Alpha release: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. We'll keep this report open against the actively developed kernel bug against 2.6.22 this will be closed. Thanks.

Upgraded to Hardy kernel as described in the instructions at:
http://sudan.ubuntuforums.com/showthread.php?t=646755&page=33

uname -r:
2.6.24-11-generic

On the 32 bit machine, everything seems OK so far. Continuous playing of flac files for 14 hours did not induce an oops. With Gutsy kernel, the machine oopsed usually within 30 minutes of playing. So, most likely, the problem has been fixed in the Hardy kernel.

------------------------------

On the AMD64 machine, I cannot test because I hit a regression: The machine can not boot with the Hardy kernel:

And subsequently fails to mount the root filesystem. Note that these error messages are copied by hand from the boot screen, so there might be typing errors. I don't have the equipment for getting output from the serial console.

I have a SATA hard disk attached to port 1 and a SATA DVD-burner attached to port 3.
No other disks. No problems with the Gutsy kernel.

Hi pehaimi,

Sorry for the delayed response. Care to open a new bug report regarding the boot issues you are seeing with your amd64 machine. It's helpful to the development teams if bug reports target one specific issue against a specific set of hardware. In your new bug report it would be nice to make sure you tested against the latest Hardy Beta - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . Also if you could take a digital photo of the errors you see when trying to boot and attach it to your new bug report, that would be helpful.

I'm going to go ahead and close this report and mark it "Fix Released" against Hardy. Thanks.
