Bug Description

This bug considers Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 Alpha 4:

when clicking on the toolbar buttons at the top of the screen (for instance the button to shutdown/reboot/log off/suspend the system) they do not respond by opening the programme which lies underneath.

I just found that this goes for opened programmes, as well.

For instance, the toolbars of OpenOffice 2.3.1-3ubuntu3 or Firefox 3 do not respond either.
However, they can be accessed by using the keyboard, instead.

I also found out that my touchpad mouse seems to be double clicking by default.
So, when I tap once, the mouse double clicks.

I have no idea how to disable this auto double click feature.
Perhaps this is "the bug" in Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 Alpha 4"?

I suspect that this is a diuplicate of #173411 and similar. See the comment at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/+source/xorg/+bug/173411/comments/44 for what sounds to be the problem you are encountering.

Indeed, it is the same issue.
However, no resolution has been given, there.

The comment "I took out the lines ..." is not really helping.

So, the bug remains, in my opinion.

I'd love to know how to resolve this bug.

I got rid of the following lines in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier "Synaptics Touchpad"
        Driver "synaptics"
        Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
        Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
        Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
        Option "SHMConfig" "on"
        Option "HorizScrollDelta" "0"
EndSection

By getting rid of these lines, the touchpad started behaving normally again.
However, is this the way to resolve this (kind of a) bug?

As this is the same issue as the referenced bug, I am marking this as a duplicate.

If removing those lines from your xorg.conf did not resolve the original issue (unable to click on buttons on the toolbar) please reopen.

If you have anything to add please do so on the reference bug.

Thanks!

I can't edit on the reference bug, so I put my comment here, still:

When I removed the lines it resolved the original issue.

However, I suspect this is not a valid workaround. I think you should be able to still use these lines, because with them you can configure your touch pad.
I mean, by removing the lines the issue is resolved but you can no longer configure your touch pad.

Am I right?

Regards.
