Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-14-server

When trying to access a LTO-3 drive attached to a "Emulex Corporation Zephyr-X LightPulse Fibre Channel Host Adapter" via the lpfc kernel module, I get SCSI sense key errors. It is easy to reproduce them by e.g. running amtapetype. As a consequence, backups are not (reliably) possible.

This bug looks like the one reported in <http://marc.info/?l=linux-scsi&m=119741302902462&w=2>. Any idea when it will be fixed in Ubuntu? I run 7.10 (the 64 bit version) on an Intel Xeon.

Thanks for submitting this report.

Would it be possible to test this issue against the newest kernel for hardy and tell us if the problem still occurs.

Thanks.

Unfortunately testing is not so easy, as the box is a production server... I will see if I can arrange for that during a maintenance downtime.

As I had to get the system (in particular the backups) running, I decided shortly after submitting this bug report to build a kernel myself. I now run 2.6.24.2 from kernel.org, which already does include the patch as indicated in the link above. It completely fixed the Backup issues with Amanda, i.e. I can now use the LTO-3 at full speed without any hiccups.

I would think that the problem should be fixed in this case. Hardy uses currently 2.6.24-10 kernel. If you like I can close this report, and you can re-open it if you find out that it still exists in hardy.

If it needs to be fixed in an early release of ubuntu, the SRU process should be followed (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates) in order that this will get worked on.

Thanks.
