[Hardy] Audio-CD is not recognised

Bug Description

In Xubuntu Hardy, when I insert an audio-CD, Totem comes up but says it "can't find cdda:". The CD-drive doesn't show up on the desktop or somewhere in the file system. It's evidently not mounted, because the CD-drive can immediately open when I push its button.
When I insert the same audio-CD's in Gutsy, Totem also comes up BUT it can play the CD and the CD-drive appears at the desktop. So there must be something wrong in Hardy.

Which version of Hardy is this in? If you haven't tested it in Alpha 5 yet, please do so.
Also, when you insert the audio CD and Totem opens, can you check your file manager to see if the disk appears in media:/

Today, I upgraded (must be an upgrade to Alpha5).

The problem is still there: I put the CD in the drive, Totem appears and can't open cdda:. When I rightclick on the item "cdda:" in the Totem playlist and choose "Copy location" and paste that in an editor, I get:

file:///home/myname/cdda%3A/

So Totem thinks the CD is mounted in my home directory?!
In the file manager, I can't find it in my home directory.
In /media, there are two CD-directories: cdrom (which is a symlink) and cdrom0. But those are empty and are present when the CD is not in the drive as well.

I can confirm this bug (Xubuntu 8.04 Final).

You can "fix" it by changing the way XFCE handles movable disk and medias in the XFCE configuration, multimedia tab.

Use "totem cdda:///dev/cdrom"

You guys should fix this bug. It could be "critical" for new users.

This has been a problem with XFCE/Totem for as long as I can remember; apparently there is little interest in fixing it. Some users report it to be sporadic too, depending on what sort of physical media was played last, what version of XFCE and Totem is being used, and the current phase of the moon. Google is full of complaints of this sort, and the usual response is to switch to a different media player... hardly ideal!

It would be nice if an out-of-the-box install of Ubuntu could play audio CDs reliably.. maybe one day!
