Bug Description

With my Toshiba Satellite P200-1E9, the desktop effects doesn't work. It seem's that my Intel GMA X3100 is on blacklist, but I don't know why (Intel supports Linux?!). Because of that, I'm not sure if this is a bug or it's a feature (to prevent users from getting freezes: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/194080)

Graphic: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family (Intel GMA X3100)
All updates are installed and I use compiz version 1:0.6.0
Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon

This problem should be solved in hardy. To my knowledge. there was a problem that has been fixed with XV that caused the blacklisting. Refer to http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3451249 for workarounds.

Compiz is blacklisted because if you have it enabled and attempt to play a video it will not work. The choice to blacklist it was made by the Desktop Effects team.

It will be resolved in Hardy however.

Sorry for all of the messages.

Since this is a known issue and is resolved in the development version of Ubuntu, I am marking this one as invalid.

For more information on the issue of the X3100 and Compiz you can search Launchpad and the ubuntuforums.

Thanks!
