Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

On several occasions nautilus has crashed on me (and restarted) when I did the following:

1. With one nautilus browser window open, select 'copy' on a file from a Samba drive.

2. Browse to another folder (in this case an external USB drive), and select 'paste'.

3. While the file is copying, close the (only) nautilus browser window.

It should close the browser window but continue the copy. But instead, it sometimes crashes: first the browser window closes, then the copy status indicator window stops updating its percent complete, then nautilus disappears completely, including the copy status indicator window and desktop icons. Shortly afterwards it restarts, but the file has not been copied (it is left in an incomplete state on the target device).

This is on Hardy alpha 4 with all updates to 22 Feb, kernel 2.6.24-8-generic, nautilus 1:2.21.91-0ubuntu3.

I tried attaching gdb to nautilus to get a backtrace, but while it's attached, nautilus does not respond to input (it won't open a browser window, or if one is open, it won't let you do anything - it just greys out) until gdb detaches.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Unfortunately, no file were generated for these nautilus crashes (just earlier ones for openoffice, compiz.real, pycentral, glxinfo, and gnome-screensaver). Does anything delete them or did apport just miss the crash?
