Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Using current hardy and firefox 3. If firefox has trouble loading the live bookmarks it amends "live bookmark loading.." or "live bookmark feed failed to load." to the top of the current list of live bookmarks.

It is either loading them, thinking it isn't and giving an error, or reloading them at a later date and failing. Firefox 2 would remove the list if it couldn't load later. The attached screenshot explains it better than I can. I think it looks weird.

we should triage in bugzilla.mozilla.org. most likely they already have a bug. Any volunteers ;) ... let us know.

Thanks,

I can also confirm this bug, except in my live bookmark menu I have a long list of "live bookmark loading" in every single feed. So for one feed that is twenty items long, they will all say "live bookmark loading..." Google News is the only one out of twenty that seems to actually load once in a while, since they have around one story loading for every three in the feed that says "live bookmark loading".

I can also confirm this bug in Firefox 3.0.3 and 3.0.4. It seems to be getting worse as at first it only affected one link but now almost all are affected.

It is also not possible to delete one of these wayward bookmarks. If I try to delete one of them, simply nothing happens.

Does anyone feel responsible for trying to correct such errors? Is there an 'owner' for live bookmarks? I'd be happy to try to help if anyone feels that keeping Firefox on top is worthwhile. If not, it would help if someone was honest and said 'tough luck, you'll just have to put up with such second rate software'. At least I'd know where I am.

I've managed to correct this problem in Firefox 3.0.4, Ubuntu 8.10 by adding this Add-on called Reliby: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2081
I also use Feed Sidebar that brings better control to Live bookmarks and allows me to adjust in which interval they should be downloaded: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4869

[Solved] Just after my bad-tempered rant above I stumbled across a way to recover from this problem...

Delete all the contents of the cache folder in the <profile> folder and also delete all the places.* files - you lose your history but the live bookmarks work again ;-))

I can also delete them... oh, happy day...

This affects Firefox Nightly 24.0a1 (2013-06-05) as well although now the error is at the bottom of a feed.

Steps to reproduce:

Clicked on my RSS feeds.

Actual results:

I get the above message come up.

Expected results:

It doesn't come up on the Feeds on 21 Stable, therefore I shouldn't get it come up in 14 Nightly.
