Hangs during shutdown sequence

Bug Description

- Fresh installation of Ubuntu Hardy Heron Alpha 5 using the i386 Alternate Install CD on an IBM ThinkPad X60s.
- System installed on an encrypted LVM.

Steps to reproduce:
- Boot system.
- Initiate shutdown sequence.
- GDM exits and the root console appears.
- Blinking cursor after the "Running local boot scripts ..." line.

- The shutdown sequence continues and finishes successfully when I press the power button at this time.

Nope, it is not fixed. And it seems to be related to GDM somehow because "/etc/init.d/gdm stop" does not work when issued manually.

The latest GDM update fixed this. Checked several times this time around :)

Not fully fixed: see Bug #202130

Steps to reproduce:
- Boot system.
- Initiate shutdown sequence.
- GDM exits and the root console appears.
- Blinking cursor after the "Running local boot scripts ..." line.
- wait about 10 seconds (something hangs)
- then shutdown follows

removed gdm & usplash with all config files. Shutdown is no working as it should

and reinstalled gdm / usplash!
