Bug Description

Starting with the following commit, upstream kernel is enabling Intel IOMMU related options by default:

792fb43ce2c9 ("iommu/vt-d: Enable Intel IOMMU scalable mode by default")

We should follow upstream direction enabling CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_DEFAULT_ON and CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_SCALABLE_MODE_DEFAULT_ON.

A downside is that this change may introduce boot regressions on old systems (especially those with buggy firmware).

This causes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1958004. Still inviting vendor to investigate.

This bug is awaiting verification that the linux-oracle-5.15/5.15.0-1006.8~20.04.1 kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-focal' to 'verification-done-focal'. If the problem still exists, change the tag 'verification-needed-focal' to 'verification-failed-focal'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!
