Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

Ubuntu Gusty 7.10
pidgin 1:2.3.1-1~getdeb1

Expect status to show idle after 10 minutes of inactivity from last sent message, as is set in preferences. Expect away status to show idling 10 minutes after inactivity. Idle status does not automatically kick-in, nor does idle status kick-in after an away message is set.

Status does not update automatically. Status remains available even after a period of inactivity. Status remains away when set to away; does not change to idle away after 10 minutes, or any amount of time.

Workaround: Tools> Prefs> Status Idle, change report idle time to a different option, e.g. based on kb or mouse usage, and then change back to, from last sent message. Away status changes to show appropriate idle away time.

This has been a problem with all versions of pidgin. I have previously used the repositories provided through synaptic.

I am still seeing this problem as of Pidgin 2.4.1 in Ubuntu 8.04. I am never reported idle and it's extremely annoying.

Your work around, however, of changing the option to one thing then back seems to work.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04?

Yes, it is still reproducible. I'm using pidgin version 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1 on 8.10.

This issue is fixed in Jaunty.

Pidgin 1:2.5.5-1ubuntu8
Xfce 4.6.0
Xubuntu 9.04 RC

Idle state begins after 5 minutes instead of 10 minutes, which was the previous default waiting period.
