Bug Description

I've made a fresh install of Hardy alpha5 on my Fujitsu-Siemens laptop. After the installation when I logged into my system I noticed that the laptop's touchpad is not working correctly. For example double click doesn't work, no acceleration, no scrolling function.

The touchpad worked flowlessly on Gutsy without any configuration.

Thank you for your report. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics. Please attach the output of lspci -vvnn; dmesg and /var/log/Xorg.0.log to the bug report as separate attachments.

Thank you,

Iulian

I tried to configure the touchpad by adding the following lines to xorg.conf:
-----------------------------
Section "Module"
    Load "synaptics"
EndSection
#...
4 Section "InputDevice"
    Driver "synaptics"
    Identifier "TouchPad"
    Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
    Option "SHMConfig" "on"
EndSection
#...
Section "ServerLayout"
    InputDevice "TouchPad" "CorePointer"
EndSection
--------------------------------

But got some screen errors. Attaching the xorg log file

Can you also add the output of the following commands:
$ cd /var/lib/acpi-support/; grep '.' *-* > ~/laptop
$ uname -a > ~/uname-a
$ cat /proc/version_signature > ~/version_signature
$ cat /proc/bus/input/devices > ~/devices
Attach ~/laptop, ~/uname-a, ~/version_signature and ~devices to the bug report in seperate attachments.

I also have this problem here.

I upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy and my touchpad stopped working completely (it was working perfectly in Gutsy). I have to:
sudo rmmod psmouse && sudo modprobe psmouse

to make it work in the same level described in this bug report (no advanced features and jerky behaviour).

My laptop is a Gateway 5570Z (model 5570-2607), and touchpad is detected as (in /proc/bus/input/devices):

I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0007 Version=12b1
N: Name="SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio4/input0
S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input12
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse3 event11
B: EV=b
B: KEY=6420 0 7000f 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
B: ABS=11000003

I reported it on my blog: http://lkraider.eipper.com.br/blog/2008/04/dist-upgrade-hardy.html#touchpad

There is indeed no bug in kernel, as against so many normal case. This seems to a different case though. Please include the output of ..

1.synclient -m 100 >~/synclient.txt
2.xinput -list --long >~/xinput.txt

Both in seperate comments..
