miked, can you please run

sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys start

If the Apport crash reporting wizard pops up, go through it to report the crash.

Can you attach a tarball of your /etc/cups/ directory? Perhaps the crash is caused by a broken config file.

I think this is working at the moment due to some recent updates, only the firefox 3 problem seems to exist now. I could send the tarball, if I knew how.

You can add the tarball as an attachment by clicking "Add a comment/attachment".
