Bug Description

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

Hardy Heron, Alpha 5 + updates current to Feb. 27, 2008

Epiphany 2.21.90

I can't import bookmarks from any supported Epiphany method on Hardy Heron.

I have imported my Firefox bookmarks into Firefox 3.0. I opened Epiphany, and told it to import from Firefox. No failure registers, but no bookmarks appear.

I have exported my bookmarks from Gutsy's epiphany and Firefox 2.0, and copied the bookmarks.html and bookmarks.rdf into my filesystem. But when I try to tell Epiphany to import either of them, I get a dialog box with the following message:

"IMPORT FAILED
The bookmarks from “bookmarks2.html” could not be imported because the file is corrupted or of an unsupported type."

So far, I seem to be completely unable to get my bookmarks into Hardy's Epiphany 2.21.90 at all.

It's working OK for me. I was able to open the bookmarks.html file and import directly from firefox 3.0 and swiftweasel, which is firefox 2.0. It's possible you have some sort of broken link in your bookmarks that epiphany is choking on. You want to send over your bookmarks file and I'll see if I can import it?

These two files - and, of course, importing from FF 3.0 directly - did not produce results of any kind.

Running Ephy from CLI doesn't yield any strange text or anything, either.

This particular attachment is a firefox-compatible html file, but generated from my Epiphany bookmarks.

Please note: ALL of these files import just fine into Epiphany 2.20.1 (Gutsy) without tweaking of any kind - its only 2.21.90 (Hardy) that chokes on them, and it chokes on all of them.

Confirmed. Something in this file causes Epiphany to choke.

It works for me. Could you tell me if you look for your boockmarks in the toolbar or in the bookmarks window?

Andrea: does it work for you with the attached files, or with your own files?

I look for my bookmarks in both places; they aren't there.

I can take a screenshot of the error dialog, if that helps any...

This is reproducible exporting bookmarks and than importing it. Sorry, but I tryed importing them directly.

I think this deserves a higher rating than "wishlist"... I think this is a pretty important feature that anyone who uses Epiphany would probably want, and it blatantly doesn't work even with its own files. I won't press the issue beyond this post, but while I'm making this comment, i would ask that the status get reconsidered.

Update: I made a copy of my current ~/.gnome2/epiphany folder (leaving out the Mozilla subfolder), and replaced the default one that existed in Hardy. THIS got me my bookmarks, so seems to be a workaround.

Of course this is an important feature in Epiphany, but I set the importance of the package in Ubuntu and this feature is not too important in Ubuntu itself.
Feel free to ask me more questions if you want.

Same here on 2.22.0. I can't import any bookmarks not from files not from browsers. If i export my bookmarks with epiphany, the bookmark.rdf can't be imported too.

Also, the epilicious plugin is unable to sync with ma.gnolia.com, and i believe this is related.
