Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

I burned a disc of http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/downloads/dft32_v412_b01.iso and later checked its integrity by Brasero. (Brasero ejected and quitted after burning due to my selection, so I had to restarted brasero to check.) It said its md5 sum is not the same as one I calculated by md5sum of the iso file. But command "dd if=/dev/cdrom of=file.iso bs=1024" for unmounted cdrom gave me matching file.iso.

brasero 0.6.1-0ubuntu1
xubuntu 7.10

Thanks for your bug submission. Is it possible to enable backports repository and upgrade to brasero 0.7.1?

You can do it through synaptic or just edit in a terminal:

>sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.bak

>sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

Uncomment (remove #) from backport repositories

Control-O (return) Control-X (return) when finished

>sudo apt-get update

>sudo apt-get install brasero

Marking as Incomplete pending tests with brasero 0.7.1

If you get the same MD5 error with 0.7.1 then it will be time to escalate this bug report.

Thanks again for your efforts.

Brasero 0.7.1 tells the disc is not corrupted, if I give it the MD5 sum file. BTW Brasero offers option to check integrity without separately specified MD5 file. How can it check integrity then?

I'm guessing brasero works similar to k3b in that it reads the iso, computes the MD5 then reads the burned disk. This assumes that the downloaded iso is perfect. You would have to perform a separate md5 check using the command line tool, or the readout from k3b to verify that the download is in intact. The wording is confusing--braser, like k3b is simply verifying that the iso on the hard disk is bit-for-bit verified with what is on the burned CD. If what you downloaded has errors, the it will simply copy those errors. You have to manually check the integrity of the downloaded iso by comparing with the published MD5 from the website.

So I assume that 0.7.1 is working correctly and that the disk that you burned passed the integrity check. I've used k3b extensively in the past, and only recently I've been using brasero without problems.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 with Brasero 0.7.1 and I have yet to have a disc successfully burn due to the integrity tests. Finally I just decided to turn it off from Edit > Plugins

it succeeds testing freshly burnt CDs.
it fails testing freshly burnt DVDs, saying "operation not supported".
i have plugins: local-track, md5sum, md5sum-file

I have the same problem as ondre on ubuntu 8.10 and Brasero 0.71. trying to burn DVDs - the DVD burns correctly but then fails to do integrity check and there is not additional information other than the operation not supported message. Basically what happens is the disc burns successfully - it then gets ejected and prompts me to push it back in (I have a laptop) so that it can do the integrity check but then fails with the operation not supported error.

The bug the last three people have reported is actually already reported in bug #224126 and apparently the developers of brasero already know about it!
