Same issue here, 8.04 Hardy (upgraded from Gutsy yesterday).

# sudo aptitude install libpam-umask

(lots of output)

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libpam-modules: Conflicts: libpam-umask but 0.04 is to be installed.

...which will cause almost the complete system to be uninstalled! :)

libpam-umask is included in libpam-modules since 0.99.7.1-2.

/lib/security/pam_umask.so
/usr/share/man/man8/pam_umask.8.gz

included in libpam-modules (thank you daniel for the hint) should remove it from repository?

Changed in pam-umask:
status: New → Invalid

Yes, libpam-umask is no longer necessary so it should be removed from the repository.
How do we apply this?

I aslo noticed this alarming issue on my system when doing: apt-get install libpam-umask
If it wants to remove almost all my system see http://pastebin.ca/1201680

dpkg -S pam_umask.so
libpam-modules: /lib/security/pam_umask.so

so the libpam-umask should be removed from the repo as soon as possible but the documentation must be added to libpam-modules.

These bugs can waste time of lots of people

offtopic question: in theory a ubuntu linux system should run fine with umask 0077 for all users, correct?
