Bug Description

I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 6 with Acer Travelmate 3040.

I have a sound card HDA Intel with ALC883 realtek chipset.

No sound at all. The card is recognized by Ubuntu.

Using previous version 8,04, I was obliged to compile alsa and install module snd-hda-intel.

Should I have to do the same even with 8.10 and pulseradio?

This is still a valid bug, as the card should be autodetected. Can you please tell us what kernel you are using? You can get that version by entering "uname -a" into a terminal. Please paste the output here, thanks.

eamelink@link:~$ uname -a
Linux link 2.6.24-11-generic #1 SMP Fri Feb 29 22:08:31 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

I have also run the script mentioned in the above mentioned wiki page:

http://pastebin.ca/937944 <-- This is when it works; e.g. with "options snd-hda-intel model=auto"

After a reboot without the "options snd-hda-intel model=auto" in a try to see a difference in output i found out that this problem no longer exists with this kernel. So in 2.6.24-11-generic this bug does not occur.
