Bug Description

Ubuntu Desktop installer, page Installation Type > Advanced Options... Omits "ZFS" as an installation type.

Quote: "NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair"

ZFS is included as non-free kernel module. All the pieces are there to continue this advanced option. It is still a test in the QA matirix to test a ZFS installation...

Yet this option is missing from the installer's panels. It is easier to take it out at the last minute, after it "is" tested, than to add it later as untested.

Agree that the testcase is incorrect and needs to be updated for the new installer options - however if you select "something else" and do manual partition you can select ZFS as an option - (have yet to test if this works)

In "Something Else", choosing "ZFS Root Filesystem" results in an automatic "Installation Failed" as soon as the installer starts... As if that option is not there nor workable. Does this Bug Report need to evolve into that? Or start a new one?

Should I upload the installer logs? It doesn't crash. The staus message just stays at "installation failed."

As soon as the Lunar Repo's were available, I've been building ZFS install's off both the Desktop and Server Edition ISO "MANUALLY", with a bpool. zfs native encrypted rpool & swaps, and homepool... And doing ZFS RAIDd and RAIDz... With native Solaris Root. Solaris Boot, Solaris Home, and Solaris Swap partitions. I know the underlying framework works with Lunar.

No update to this? This seems to be an issue that is important to other Users on the Forum. Should i enlist them to just join this Bug as affected, so that it can get confirmed, instead of undecided?

Closing that ubuntu-desktop-installer report since the component is deprecated. We aren't going to fix 23.10 installer bugs at this point and Noble uses ubuntu-desktop-provision, feel free to reopen/reassign to that component if that's still an issue with the noble beta image

Changed in ubuntu-desktop-installer:
